The Storm Shadow range is definitely launcher to target, not flight distance, & I'm sure that "more than" means "a lot more than". nope.As India already masters cruise missile technologies (as demonstrated by the Brahmos), MTCR is kinda moot. And yes, I do believe the BrahMos is limited to 290km. Further more the F-35 has now to be developed at all and prove it's self.I researched a little bit in the internet for more informations about the JASSM and it looks like it has less stealth capabilities (including low level flight) than the european designs, but it might be cheaper. The JASSM will probably be built in the highest numbers and get the most development so it will probably end up as the cheapest and most effective. The JASSM will probably be built in the highest numbers and get the most development so it will probably end up as the cheapest and most effective.I would say that the real cost effectiveness comparison is between the JASSM, the new "half price" Tomahawk Block IV, the SLAM-ER and even the SDB.So which is best? Of course, the primary US options are JSOW and WCMD.In the current air defense environment, a gliding weapon such as JSOW can perform the same task as APACHE for far less money. Storm Shadow is an Anglo-French low-observable air-launched cruise missile, developed since 1994 by Matra and British Aerospace, and now manufactured by MBDA.Storm Shadow is the British name for the weapon; in French service it is called SCALP EG (Système de Croisière Autonome à Longue Portée – Emploi Général, meaning General Purpose Long Range Cruise Missile). Hundreds - or perhaps thousands - of SDB's can be dropped in a sustained campaign with little - or maybe zero - attrition to the F-22/F-35 fleet. In contrast, no more than a few dozen Storm Shadom missiles can ever be expended in a single conflict. We can call things copies but that in itself require significant ability. Not very, apparently. I've been on the MDBA website, to compare both missiles, and while the weight is not that different, 1300 vs 1400 kg, the range quoted for Storm Shadow and Taurus are very different, with a range in excess of 500 km quoted for the Taurus and a range in excess of 250 km for the Scalp/Storm Shadow.I was assuming that the 250 km range for the Storm Shadow was the range at which distance you could fire from the target, given that the missile would actually cover a much bigger range to get there because of it's flight pass avoiding air defenses. The existence of AGM-158B (JASSM ER) tends to confirm this view.Hehe, I just felt that "a bit more fuel" didn't adequately describe 100km more range ;) (Incidentally, APACHE is a French acronym. Guidance system seems to be the same, is the Taurus stealth like Storm shadow?Low observabillity is quoted on the Storm shadow product sheet and not on the Taurus product sheet. Also it is speculated that Babur cruise missile is based on the Tomahawk cruise missile.1) How easy would it be to reverse engineer a Tomahawk engine from a crash-damaged example?, &Show it to Chinese they can reverse engineer anything. In Frankreich wurde er unter dem Namen SCALP (Système de Croisière Autonome à Longue Portée = dt. nope.As India already masters cruise missile technologies (as demonstrated by the Brahmos), MTCR is kinda moot.Do you for example believe that the Brahmos is limited to exactly 290 Km.
The weapon is now in service with three other nations giving unrivalled deep strike capability. Storm Shadow ist ein von Großbritannien und Frankreich entwickelter Marschflugkörper.
)Except as I indicated the original poster seems to be more interested in air-launched vehicles which would take Tomahawk out of the equation. However I'd expect the decision to have been driven by export considerations - I seriously doubt the UAE could have obtained Taurus in place of Black Shaheen, as the US would be *very* wary about who gets his hands on what is essentially a Tomahawk engine.IIRC I read that Scalp/Storm Shadow has a fair bit of RAM, & Taurus saves weight by omitting it, presumably substituting fuel. If you check the Taurus site, you'll see that there are some variants offered, e.g.
Within these fields of opportunity, the Taurus is a competitive product. Hello, I've been on the MDBA website, to compare both missiles, and while the weight is not that different, 1300 vs 1400 kg, the range quoted for Storm Shadow and Taurus are very different, with a range in excess of 500 km quoted for the Taurus and a range in excess of 250 km for the Scalp/Storm Shadow.
It's range exceeds MTCR regulations, yet I remember reading mention of it as an armament option for the Eurofighter in the Indian MMRCA program.
Storm Shadow / SCALP has been put into operations with the Royal Air Force and the French Air Force in 2003 and was used in the Gulf, Iraq and Libya. If that French turbine was even close to as good then there is a good chance the Germans would have selected it.The turbofan/turbojet thing pretty much explains the difference in range. Is the Taurus even available for export? This is confirmed by the fact that the Yakhont is slightly heavier with a smaller warhead, which was made heavier for the BrahMos.Given how Russia has given aid to India on sensitive subjects like submarine launched missiles, I think (hope!) TAURUS might have a higher range than Storm Shadow, but Storm Shadow may have a lower RCS.
Russian Klub has range well well above 1000km, you guys really think India and Russia couldn't work something out under the table?Russian sources constantly use disinformation, especially on sensitive subjects.I believe within NATO is permitted as the MTCR does not apply to agreements made prior to it e.g the NATO agreement. It may just be limited to 290KM by software, with the Russians willing to "unlock" the missiles at a later date, or they could be lying, we'll never know for sure.Someone talked about MTCR, that's why MBDA says ">250km" (Black Shaheen ?
